In June, Professor Emily Jerge and Professor Lucinda Phillips attended the Southeast Faculty Development Conference held in Charleston, South Carolina. The conference featured regional and national presenters and topics included changing healthcare needs, concept based nursing, and mastering clinical decision making. In addition to attending the conference, Professor Jerge and Professor Phillips presented a poster titled “Clinical Experiences Enhanced with Gaming”. The poster highlighted the methods and results of a pilot teaching assignment. The developed assignment tested individual and group knowledge on concepts related to a medical/surgical nursing clinical rotation, and also implications for future research. Using games to enhance clinical nursing concepts aids in solidifying the connection between coursework and the clinical setting, as well as meeting the objectives of the course while increasing the students comfort level at the site.
