With the great streak of weather we’ve had these past few weeks, another month of summer break wouldn’t hurt. More time to soak in the rays (don’t forget how winter was this year), lounge around, fire up a few more BBQs and relax with great company. But as much as we want to fantasize, we can’t escape the reality that we’re back for yet another term. For those of you who had summer school, I feel more for you peeps…
There are, however, some exciting new developments here at DYC and in Buffalo, I want to share.
A new 85,000 square foot Arts, Sciences and Education Building is now open to students, faculty, and staff. Check it out if you haven’t! It has new health care and computer labs, “smart” classrooms (I’m actually wondering what those look like myself) and new faculty offices! There’s also a little café in the atrium of the building, fully accessible from the parking lot as well. Perhaps a new study spot on campus? I think so!
With the new term, this also means the start-up of fitness classes! Last semester, we had free karate, yoga (vinyasa, ashtanga) and boxing classes offered to DYC students for FREE! These classes run weekly so look out for an email this semester for the new schedule or check the website.
Food, food and food
Since you’re in Buffalo, why not check out the downtown country market? Here, you can bask in a little more sunshine and pick up some local, fresh produce, savory treats, while meeting new people! If you’re all about the food like I am, then you’ll also look forward to visiting the food trucks every Tuesday at Larkin Square! There are over 20 trucks, live music, beer and wine to taste!
If you’re new to town, I would also encourage you to attend the Buffalo Bites Food Tours! For $49 you can enjoy a 3-hour guided walking tour of Elmwood Village and try delicious samples from local eateries (a great bang for your buck if you want to try a bunch of food places without spending too much money) while exploring the historic and architectural gems of this quaint little neighborhood!
And of course, each year DYC also has exciting events on and off campus lined up for their students and faculty…especially the first week! Check our online calendar and keep your eyes and ears peeled for a fun-filled and great semester ahead!
