WNY PT/PTA STUDENT CONCLAVE
The WNY PT/PTA Regional Student Conclave is a day-long educational opportunity open to all PT/PTA students in Western New York. Each year a different school hosts the event, and topics and presenters are customized to match student demand. The presenters are drawn from a diverse pool of educators and professionals in Western New York, and they represent various schools and companies.
The conclave features discussions and presentations on an ample variety of topics throughout the day — including concussion, ACL, a travel PT panel discussion, and military PT. The conclave features presenters who are specialized in their fields, and the presentations are designed to be both applicable and student-friendly.
The WNY PT/PTA Regional Student Conclave offers students an opportunity to learn, interact, and meet their fellow peers as they engage with the distinguished speakers. The day-long learning event has been created with student concerns at the forefront — the organizers scheduled the event over a weekend and aimed for affordability to make attendance simple for students who are interested in attending the event.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS
The WNY PT/PTA Regional Student Conclave was organized by a combination of students and professors at D’Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y. D’Youville students Patrick Barber and Jeff Spors found inspiration for the event after attending the APTA National Student Conclave in the fall of 2015 in Omaha, Neb. At that conclave, the two developed numerous connections with other students and began the brainstorming process for the planning of a student conclave in Western New York. This past spring, Barber and Spors attended APTA CSM in Anaheim, Cal., where they attended various presentations and further developed their ideas for potential presentations for the conclave.
Dr. Sarah Pictor, Dr. Patricia Nowakowski and Dr. Joseph Baumgarden are all professors at D'Youville College with a combined, 25-plus years of experience teaching and countless hours of practicing experience. They have practiced in various settings — from outpatient care to pediatrics to neuro. Over the years they have developed connections to experts in not only their areas of expertise but in numerous other areas of Physical Therapy. They have leveraged these connections to fill the conclave with the top presenters from WNY.
The D’Youville professors on the organizing team have experience presenting at CSM and try to attend every year to ensure they are up to date on the ever-changing technology and hands-on technique at the forefront of their field. The team has also seen success with a previous regional student conclave, and will use that success to build upon for the WNY PT/PTA Regional Student Conclave 2016.
