from Mimi Steadman, Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dear Deans and Chairs,
Please share the information below with your faculty.
You and your faculty may receive questions from your Canadian students as today Canada issued a government warning against traveling to the United States.  This will affect our Canadian students who would have been traveling to D’Youville for on-campus labs or simulations running during our online instruction.
I have provided below a concise email from me that you may share with your Canadian students (or parents) should you receive questions over the weekend, and/or if you have a distribution list for Canadian students in your program.
While I know that students will appropriately reach out to you as  chairs and faculty with specific questions about individual courses and assignments, on all matters related to the COVID-19 situation is critical that we provide a consistent official institutional response to broader questions about plans and policies as we move forward.  As you receive questions about broader issues, you may respond to let students know they their inquiry is being addressed and that additional information will follow.  The deans have been compiling these questions and forwarding for an institutional response.  These official communications will be archived so that we have a record of messaging should new guidance supercede instructions in prior communications.
Thank you for coming together in this unprecedented situation to develop creative and flexible approaches to help your students continue learning if they cannot be on campus for any reason.
Take good care,
Dear Canadian students:
We understand that the Canadian government has recommended against travel to the United States and that you are understandably concerned about how this will impact your ability to come to campus for labs or simulations.  Your instructors are working to maximize flexibility in this situation and to proactively create online alternatives to help you continue learning and to meet your course requirements.
As you know, the COVID-19 situation is changing daily, and D’Youville is adapting as circumstances evolve.  We will provide additional updates on plans for labs and simulations by the end of the business day on Monday 3/16/20.
