Faculty around the world are experiencing significant changes in the way they work. In order to better understand how to support faculty work through design, Steelcase performed a wide-ranging study. Through a combination of campus visits, faculty interviews, student workshops, digital diary probes, and time-lapse photography,  several key insights were uncovered. Join us for a discussion around our latest faculty office research and learn more about the insights we uncovered!

“Bringing Students Inside Disciplinary Circles:
Faculty Mentoring for Student Success” | January 10
Led by Larry Robinson, Partners and Robinson Higher Education Consulting, this workshop is designed to facilitate the fourth component of student success (faculty mentoring) that complements academic advising, transfer counseling, and career counseling.  Using the appreciative approach (active participation, sharing stories and insights, and emphasizing the positive) and working with a core group of faculty and student success personnel, Robinson will assist D’Youville in understanding the significance of faculty mentoring for student success.

To help colleges and universities best serve student veterans and military-aligned students, two D’Youville business professors created the Taxonomy of Student Veterans software.

Using a Research Skill Development (RSD) Framework to Improve Student Research Autonomy | ITI | Institute for Teaching Innovation at D’Youville

Undergraduate students of all majors commonly implement research as part of coursework or faculty-guided independent projects.  However, inexperienced students often do not know how to properly manage a research project.  They often require training on how to properly generate a hypothesis, design and carry out research methods, and analyze the resultant information. The RSD Framework is a rubric tool to help students improve their research skills within their specific discipline, and to help faculty train and evaluate these students.

One of the most obvious differences between online and residential education is the physical and temporal presence that the latter enables. What may be less obvious, however, is the strong role that presence can play when it comes to motivation and academic integrity, and ultimately how social interaction can enable and enhance deep learning. In this workshop, we’ll explore how the three types of presence (instructor, social, and cognitive) can be leveraged in the service of building a virtual learning community. We’ll also discuss both the benefits of such an endeavor in addition to specific strategies instructors can use in their attempt to overcome the geographic and psychological distance between them and their online students.

Catholic Health has obtained $5,070,000 from Community Partners of Western New York (CPWNY) to support the development of D’Youville College’s Health Professions Hub.

Adjunct Hiring Process
A monumental meeting of minds was held last month to clarify the adjunct hiring process. This process includes paperwork, username password, tickets, and account expiration dates. This process will continue to be revisited to make sure our adjuncts are receiving the best possible onboarding.
